We showed the public how BASTET works

Yesterday, 27 January 2026, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen held an open day. As part of the tour of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, visitors also saw our test model of the BASTET thermal storage system. Thanks to virtual reality, they could look inside the system and explore in detail how we are able to store up to 300 kWh of thermal energy.

This energy is then used for hot water and space heating in newly built family houses. Thank you for the huge interest and positive feedback.

Our test prototype, which will be used to verify all calculation models, is nearing completion, and we will soon move from theory to real data. The first results already suggest that reality will be even more efficient and effective than the calculation models.

    Who will BASTET be for?

In the initial phase, BASTET is aimed at projects of private investors and owners of newly built family houses.

    The system will offer:

    • economical heating with a long storage time,

    • efficient domestic hot water heating,

    • the ability to make maximum use of surpluses from renewable sources,

    • lower operating costs and greater self-sufficiency.

BASTET will allow homeowners to use the energy they already have and turn it into heat stored for the long term – without complicated maintenance, without the risks of lithium batteries and with a minimal environmental footprint.

Next step: industrial companies and manufacturing plants

At the same time, we are preparing the implementation of larger industrial versions with significantly higher thermal capacity.
These solutions will be intended for:

    • companies with high energy consumption,

    • industrial sites with their own electricity generation,

    • companies looking for stable, safe and economical heat storage.

The industrial version of BASTET will help balance fluctuations in consumption, reduce losses of surplus generation and lower overall energy costs.

We are looking for partners who want to take advantage of next-generation thermal storage.
    Cooperation is open to:

    • private investors planning to build energy-efficient houses,

    BASTET system validation phase

In the current phase of the project, we are focusing on comparing the real operating costs of heating with different energy sources. The goal is not a model calculation, but the closest possible approximation of actual operation in a real house.

BASTET is a unique, patented thermal energy storage system with an integrated heat exchanger for space heating and domestic hot water (DHW). It is designed as a universal solution suitable for all types of family houses.

How we calculate costs for the BASTET system

Unlike conventional heat sources, the costs of the BASTET system cannot be determined simply by multiplying consumption by the price of energy. The calculation is based on real operating conditions, specifically:

    • Daily solar yield of the photovoltaic (PV) plant, which directly affects the amount of energy available to cover part of the house’s heat demand
    • Charging the thermal storage during periods of low spot electricity prices, within 15-minute intervals
    • A combination of own generation and purchasing electricity in the most favourable time windows

This approach makes it possible to minimise operating costs without compromising the thermal comfort of the building.

    Why we compare real data

The aim of this phase is not to present the maximum possible savings, but to verify how the system behaves in real operation. We monitor:

    • the system’s ability to store energy during periods of surplus,
    • how efficiently low spot prices are used,
    • the stability of heat supply under changing conditions.

The results of the comparison serve as the basis for further optimisation of the system control and a more accurate prediction of operating costs.

Once this phase is complete, it will be possible to transparently compare the real costs of the BASTET system with conventional heating methods, such as electricity or gas, and to support the results with real operating data.

BASTET vs. heat pump: We are looking for data for comparison

Take part in our comparative study

We have fully evaluated the operating data of our BASTET system for 2025. In practice, our algorithm for storing energy as heat and then drawing on it has confirmed its high efficiency. Now we want to compare these results objectively with the current market standard.

We are therefore looking for owners of family houses heated by a heat pump who will take part in our study and provide us with their consumption data for the past year.

What do you get for taking part?

    • A detailed and objective comparison of your household’s energy consumption with our innovative technology.

    • All study participants will receive a reward as a thank-you – ranging from reimbursement of heating costs to an iPhone, a smartwatch or vouchers for the Alza.cz online shop.

Help us map the reality of Czech energy accurately and find out how your heating compares with new trends.

What is the goal of BASTET?

The aim of our project is to create a storage system that will help households and the entire energy grid. The device, which will utilize surplus energy from photovoltaics, will reduce energy bills and at the same time relieve the transmission system during peak periods.

For us, the BASTET project is more than just technology. It is a step towards energy self-sufficiency, the efficient use of renewable resources, and, above all, a more sustainable future that we can create ourselves.

We are collaborating on development with the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, where our first physical prototype is being created. The university is constructing the first actual thermal storage facility and measuring its actual capacity, heat loss, and energy transfer efficiency. All measurements should confirm months of careful calculations and bring BASTET closer to practical use.

    Who is BASTET intended for?

In the initial phase, BASTET is targeting projects by private investors who are building modern, energy-efficient houses.
    The system offers:

    • energy-efficient heating with a long storage time,
    • efficient domestic hot water heating,
    • the possibility of maximum utilization of surpluses from renewable sources,
    • reduced operating costs, and greater self-sufficiency.

BASTET will enable homeowners to use the energy they already have available and convert it into long-term stored heat—without complicated maintenance, without the risks of lithium batteries, and with a minimal ecological footprint.

Next step: industrial companies and manufacturing plants

We are currently preparing to implement larger industrial versions with significantly higher thermal capacity.
These solutions will be designed for:

    • companies with high energy consumption,
    • industrial sites with their own electricity generation,
    • companies looking for stable, safe, and economical heat storage.

The industrial version of BASTET will help balance fluctuations in consumption, reduce excess production losses, and lower overall energy costs.

  • From idea to implementation

    From idea to implementation

    How did BASTET come about?

From the need to find a balance between energy, technology, and common sense.

The idea for the BASTET project was born from a simple but pressing question:

“Why, at a time when we are producing so much clean energy, do we so often lose it?”

Anyone interested in energy knows that when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing, huge surpluses of electricity are generated. And because we are unable to store it efficiently, we have to limit part of our production, while at other times—when consumption is higher—we have to buy energy at high prices.

    This paradox inspired us.
We wanted to find a solution that would store energy differently—more simply, more safely, and more cheaply.

Unlike most of today’s systems, we decided not to go down the battery route, but rather thermal accumulation. Energy can also be stored as heat – you just need the right material that can retain it for a long time.

This is how the idea for a device that is now called BASTET
(Breakthrough Accumulation System for Thermal Energy Transfer) came about.

The project is the result of several years of calculations, simulations, data collection, and testing of various storage materials. The goal was to find the most suitable mixture in terms of efficiency, thermal capacity, and long-term stability. While the storage of electrical energy as heat has been used for a long time, it typically achieves very low efficiency. We have developed a new type of heat storage that overcomes these limitations – a compact system suitable for ordinary households, which can be installed in a utility room, with a storage capacity of up to 270 kWh of thermal energy.

We are collaborating on development with the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, where our first physical prototype is being created. The university is measuring its actual capacity, heat loss, and energy transfer efficiency.

    Our goal is clear:
to create a storage system that will help households and the entire energy grid. A device that uses surplus photovoltaic energy will reduce energy bills and at the same time relieve the transmission system during peak times.

For us, the BASTET project is more than just technology. It is a step towards energy self-sufficiency, the efficient use of renewable resources and, above all, a more sustainable future that we can create ourselves.
